Workshop

Some Stories Are Meant to Be Shared

At Atelier Hana Tsugi, workshops are more than a class — they are an invitation to slow down and experience the philosophy of repair. Through a guided introduction to the art of Kintsugi, participants discover how patience and care can transform what is broken. The process unfolds gently, almost like a form of meditation, offering a pause from the rhythm of everyday life. Repairing an object becomes not only a creative gesture, but also an act of sustainability — choosing to restore rather than discard, and giving new life to what still holds meaning.

Introduction to Kintsugi

This beginner-friendly workshop offers an introduction to traditional Kintsugi and the opportunity to experience the final decorative stage of a repair using metal powders.

What you'll learn
  • The history and philosophy of Kintsugi

  • Traditional tools and materials

  • The key stages of a traditional repair

  • Application of metal powder finishes

  • How repaired objects are transformed through restoration

At the end of the workshop, you'll take home your finished practice piece.

Important Notes
  • This workshop focuses on the final finishing stage and provides an introduction to the Kintsugi process.

  • Participants wishing to explore the complete repair process, from breakage to final decoration, may continue with the Foundation Workshop.

  • Due to the curing time required for Urushi lacquer, a complete repair cannot be carried out within a single session.

  • Personal objects cannot be repaired during this introductory workshop. If you have a piece you would like to restore, feel free to bring it, we will assess together whether it is suitable for the process.
